September 11th

Wednesday, September 11th, 2002

I feel a little obligated to post something today, although I certainly don’t want to be part of the media onslaught of disturbing accounts and images from one year ago.

I suppose each of us must remember, mourn, contemplate and pray in our own way. That’s what I choose to do. My father told me that he will do things today that feed his soul and touch his heart. Good advice. I’ve always found solace in music and I’ll be listening to a lot of it today. Here’s a quote from a song I know I’ll be listening to:

Imagine there’s no countries, it isn’t hard to do.
Nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too.
Imagine all the people, living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.
I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will live as one.

Condo offer accepted

Tuesday, September 17th, 2002

Lately I’ve been shopping around for a condo. I’ve had more than enough of apartment living (do you have to explain to someone that it’s not the best idea to play their stereo at 2am so loud that the dishes rattle in their neighbor’s apartment??). Anyway, I found a nice place that I liked a lot and had an offer prepared. After gnashing my teeth all day while second-guessing my offer, I got a call from my realtor this evening. The seller accepted my offer! Woo hoo!! I suppose I’d better start practicing my signature. I hear all those closing forms are a real bear.

Condo paperwork

Tuesday, September 24th, 2002

So, my offer for the condominium has been accepted and the wheels are in motion for me to be thirty years in debt very soon. What’s funny is, I haven’t actually bought anything yet and I am hip deep in paperwork. Tonight I filled out the particulars of a loan application, which requires copies upon copies of bank statements, tax returns, check stubs, etc. I remember reading something several years ago that this modern computer era was supposed to bring us a paper-less society. If I have any money left after I’m thirty years in debt, I think maybe I’ll invest in a paper company.

This week I unveiled my latest web creation, Barstool Sportsmen, which is now up and running live.

Thanks to Mike (one of the Barstool Sportsmen) the idea has been planted in my brain to set up a web site for my free lance web design work. Hopefully that’ll be up in the next few months.

Springsteen in Milwaukee

Saturday, September 28th, 2002

Wow! Last night I saw Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band’s show in Milwaukee. Of course I was anticipating songs from Springsteen’s back catalog the most (”She’s The One” was a real treat), but my favorite song of the night turned out to be “The Fuse” from his current album. I was wondering how some of the more somber material from The Rising would turn out in concert, but Bruce and the band pulled it off like the seasoned professionals they are. Surprisingly, while the old classics were great, I enjoyed hearing a lot the new songs more than the older ones.

Googlefight for Governor

Friday, October 4th, 2002

Tonight I tuned in to watch the debate between the candidates for Wisconsin Governor on TV. Either the debate wasn’t all that exciting or I was pretty tired from a hard day’s work. I saw the first two questions, responses and rebuttals, and the next thing I remember was waking up 15 minutes after the debate was over. So, I turn to Google Fight for enlightenment. Enter Scott McCallum versus Jim Doyle and Doyle wins by over 200,000 Google entries. It’s official — I’m voting for Doyle. (It’s okay, I wasn’t going to vote for a conservative Republican no matter how many Google entries he had).

Condo news: My loan has been approved! In just another 24 days I will be thirty years in debt. Now, who wants to come over and help me pack?

Eight year old junk

Sunday, October 13th, 2002

Just two more weeks until I’m thirty years in debt. My apartment is beginning to resemble a warehouse with all the boxes I’ve got laying about. You don’t realize how much junk you’ve got until you start handling everything you own piece by piece. While going through a closet this weekend I discovered a bunch of junk that I haven’t touched since I put it in the closet eight years ago when I moved in. If anyone can tell me why I was keeping this stuff, they’ll win the grand prize for the week.*

*The grand prize for this week is a box full of junk that hasn’t been used for eight years.

Memories can’t wait

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2002

So there I was going through some stuff as I was packing yesterday and I came across my high school yearbooks. I couldn’t resist opening the first one and browsing through it. It’ll just take a few minutes, I said to myself. After I had finished looking through all three an hour had passed and a rush of memories were flooding my brain. Sometimes I wish I could go back to high school with the knowledge of life that I now have. I also wish I could go back and visit those good friends I had that I lost touch with so long ago. Here’s to my classmates. I hope you’re doing well.

One week and lots of home improving

Monday, November 4th, 2002

Yes, I am now thirty years in debt. It sure beats paying rent to the landlord though. I’ve been in my condo for almost a week now and I like it a lot. Now, if I could just get the guy that unpacks all the boxes to work a little faster it would be even better.

Anyone interested in buying stock I would advice investing in home improvement stores. Since I moved I’ve already visited three different home improvement stores five times and let me tell you, there seems to be a lot of home improving going on around here. Each time I go the parking lots are packed and the lines at the registers are long.

Ouch! Hurry up and wait

Monday, November 11th, 2002

Thanks to me rushing to get a home improvement project done and a little accident involving my left thumb and my drill, I had a fun filled trip to the emergency room last night. After my thumb was stitched up, I had spent a total of three and a half hours there. Weeeee! Needless to say, I probably won’t be doing any home improvement projects until I get this big purple bandage off of my thumb. Yes, I have a purple bandage. It’s actually quite fashionable and a better choice over the hot pink gauze they also had in the cabinet.
