Milkweed
While hiking at a local park last weekend, I came across all kinds of milkweed plants. Most were spreading their seeds before the winter sets in.
The pods really are kind of alien looking.
The plant below was my favorite. Isn’t the shape and texture gorgeous? I wonder how far the wind will carry the seeds?

Ah yes milkweed is a beautiful plant. It attracts monarch butterflies. They catepillers feed on the leaves and build a cocoon under the leaves and then emerge as butterflies. I let them grow wild in my yard. They are very attractive. Also parts of them are edible. I think it is the pod part before it gets seedy. I am not sure as I have never eaten any.
The bush on your last entry is not edible. Birds will eat the berries though. I am not sure what it is called. It is some kind of ornamental bush.

The last photo of the burst milkweed pod looks like cotton.
These belong to the nature items that are often over looked by the casual observer. Gorgeous close-ups. Thanks for seeing, photographing and for posting, so that all of us can enjoy.
