Downtown Iowa City

Clinton Street

I was in Iowa City earlier this week (attending a conference). Late one afternoon, I took a walking tour of downtown, and parts of the University of Iowa campus.

The campus is on both sides of the Iowa River (below).

I just loved the look of the old Hotel Jefferson (above and below).

The folks in Iowa City have done a great job maintaining the beautiful old buildings there.

They’ve even blocked off one of the old downtown streets and created a pedestrian mall. It reminded me a bit of State Street in Madison.

  1. Thanks for sharing the Iowa City views. Was the one bldg a chapel? a school house? Looks like a great spot for a campus.

  2. That’s the Danforth Chapel. I believe Iowa University uses it for special events, meeting space, and it’s also available for rent. It’s in a real nice setting, very park like, with the river being behind me as I photographed it.

  3. HOpe you got my email, requesting to use your photos for my webpage. You have some wonderful pictures of Iowa City, in fact, the best I could find! joan
