Even during the cold of winter, a walk in the woods does wonders for my soul.

Yesterday I headed over to the local sledding hill.

The expressions on the faces of the sledders as they were sliding down were priceless.

This is what fun looks like during winter in Wisconsin.

Like ducks to (cold) water

It seems the phrase “like a duck to water” is appropriate during the bitter cold too.

Just as long as they can still find some open water.

Dock drifts

At last, winter has asserted itself in Madison.

Thursday’s storm created some nice snow drifts along the dock at Tenney Park. They looked like crashing waves to me, frozen in time.

I can finally tell the sun is setting just a little later every day. For me, the darkness of winter is worse than the cold. I’m glad the light is moving in the right direction again.

The warmest heatwave of the summer so far has just begun. Rather than get all sweaty by shooting some pictures outside, I decided to keep cool by staying in and looking though some winter photos. Wouldn’t a seat on this bench feel good right now?

Awaiting winter’s end

With the few inches of snow Madison got yesterday, came the realization that winter has seemed especially long this year. Like this snow covered basketball court, I’m anxiously waiting for it to end.

Breaking out the snowshoes

I got out my snowshoes for the first time this winter.

Cherokee Marsh was beautifully quiet and serene, except for the crunching of my snowshoes, and the occasional sounds the woodpeckers made.

At the top of the hill, a bench, and a place to put my feet up and enjoy the view.
