Engine 261

Steam locomotive, Milwaukee Road 261 leads an excursion train that ran from Milwaukee to the Wisconsin Dells today.

After seeing a minuscule blurb in yesterday’s paper, some online investigating, and a call to my father (who is also a train buff), we decided to head to the Dells and check it out.

Above is the locomotive over the Wisconsin River.

Dad and I had fun, even though we wound up under a light shower of cinders.

A large crowd in the grassy area next to a steam locomotive.

Standing just a few feet away, you could really feel the locomotive’s power as it blew that loud whistle, and chugged off back to Milwaukee.

The back half of a locomotive running on the tracks. A cloud a steam arises out of the top, an engineer sits next to the cab's window, and two men stand behind him in the doorway.

At the end of the train was the restored Milwaukee Road Hiawatha observation car, Cedar Rapids.

An observation car on the end of the train with a dome-like array of windows at the back.

Wouldn’t you just love to ride that to your next destination?

  1. Your train pictures are great. I like the one with Dad in the foreground. From what he said you two had a great time. The weather stayed good too. Great that you were also able to see the Bennett Museum.
