Bathtub & tile: done

The last of my major home renovation projects is done! Woo hoo!

subway tiles with glass mosaic accent

I ended up using white subway tile with a stripe of glass mosaic tile as an accent.

At first I wasn’t sure about the accent tiles, but once the grout was put on, I think it turned out real nice.

Here are before and after shots.

new tub and tile

The disgusting, 1950’s blue green bathtub is gone! I did feel a little bad for my contractors though. The tub was cast iron, and the two guys really struggled to remove it and haul it out of the house.

  1. Hi there – I was just browsing online for some bathroom inspiration. I think my tub/shower situation is pretty close to yours. Can you tell me what color grout and tile spacing you used? I like how it shows off the tile pattern but blends with the brown tile. Also, your window is fantastic! I have a stupid vinyl one… Is the wood window holding up to the water?

  2. I still have some extra grout my tile guy didn’t use. The brand is Keracolor S, color is straw (#94). I was trying to match one of the colors of the glass tiles. I had him space the tiles 1/4 inch, although if I could do it again, I think I’d make the spacing a little smaller. That window is actually a vinyl one, but it has a faux wood look (I don’t think a wood window would last very long here). The window frame that was surrounding it was wood, and it had quite a bit of rot. The guy who did the tiles removed the wood and used the tiles to frame the window.
