Red barn

There’s something that draws me to old barns. Perhaps there’s a bit of farmer blood in my veins, leftover from my ancestors.

  1. Once again you have captured an endearing photo, especially for those of us who love barns. The contrast between the windmill and the barn give a sense of what rural life once was. One senses a feeling of loneliness – no longer used or needed -but they stand there in quite good condition ready to be put to use if called upon once more. Good rural scene capturing yesterday with color and feeling.

  2. Thanks for the comment Dad. I thought it was unusual that the barn was in such good shape, yet didn’t look like it was actively being used. Maybe they’re using it for storage, or just had it closed up for the winter?

  3. This location is used by the DNR for various purposes. It was purchased some years back from a private owner. I know that the YEPS (Youth Environmental Protection Services) group holds their annual celebration and cross-country skiing event there.

(Stumbled upon your blog while doing some research for the Sauk Prairie Historical Society, looking for a particular wind mill manufacturer from the late 19th centure.)

  4. Thanks for the comment Jodi. Yes, it sounds like you’re thinking of the same barn. I’m glad such a beautiful structure is still being put to good use.

By the way, I just spent quite a bit of time on your website. Love your photos, especially the closeups of crafts and antiques.
