Justice for George Floyd rally

Protestors march away from the Capitol, with signs saying Black Lives Matter and I Can't Breathe

As a white man of privilege, I can’t begin to understand what it’s like living as a black person in America. All I can do is be sympathetic, supportive, and call out injustice when I see it. To that end, I went downtown to support the Justice for George Floyd rally.

Even though there was a lot of anger in the crowd (and rightfully so) I was pleased the organized protest here was peaceful. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case a few hours after that organized rally was over, when a relatively small group of people damaged property and clashed with police on State Street.

A sign in this photo summed up my feelings:

I am not Black but…
I will stand with you.
I will fight for you.
I will defend you.
I see you.
I value you.
