Farewell old friend

A very large, thick trunk and branches of on an old white willow tree. Behind the tree is an expanse of marsh grasses. A river can be seen in the distance.

Sunday I discovered this magnificent white willow at Cherokee Marsh, one of my favorite trees, had to be taken down.

A large tree stump and some branches from a felled tree sits along side a boardwalk trail. Blue sky and a small tree are in the background.

Half of a large segment (split lengthwise) from a felled tree sits on the ground. The inner part of the wood shows a large portion of wood rot.

From the remains on the ground, it’s pretty obvious the tree was rotten in the middle. I’m guessing it was cut down in the last few months for safety reasons.

It was so big and beautiful… that tree made this my favorite stop while hiking the marsh. I’ll miss it tremendously. The first and last photos here are from 2020.
