In a scene like this, it’s almost as if the sun is beckoning me to follow the tracks into the sunset, and just walk away from everything. Some days, that notion can be particularly appealing.

Mullberry wing
I caught this mullberry wing butterfly lunching on some purpletop vervain. They’re so small for a butterfly! I assumed it was a moth before I looked it up.

Mating green darners
More dragonfly chasing… These mating green darner dragonflies were zooming all around the pond together for quite a while. They landed a few times when the female (in the back) would dip her abdomen in the water to release the fertilized eggs.

In need of a cool picnic spot
While I do enjoy the warmer weather of summer, when it’s hot and muggy for extended periods of time (like it has been in Madison), my thoughts turn to winter. I would much rather deal with below zero temperatures than it being in the humid 90’s.
Sadly, these heat dome conditions are only going to keep happening with more frequency, thanks to human-induced climate change. I wonder if, as a society, we’re ever going to wake up and do something about it.
