In past years I couldn’t believe how many people waited until the last minute to do their taxes. Invariably, every year on the evening news of April 15th (tax deadline here in the U.S.), the big story would be the lines of people at the post office, mailing their tax returns at the last minute. When I worked at the public library I was amazed by the number of people we would get the last few days before tax day, frantically searching for the tax forms they needed.
This year, I came close to being one of those people. Back in late January, I went out and picked up this year’s edition of a tax preparation program. Ever since then I’ve been saying, “This weekend I’m going to get my taxes done.”
So here we are the last weekend before the big deadline and the weather is just gorgeous. Instead of doing something outside (which I was aching to do), I spent three hours in front of my computer figuring out my contribution to the federal and state budgets.
Next year, I’m doing it on a cold, snowy, winter weekend. Honest.
