This E9 diesel locomotive was manufactured in 1961, and originally served on the Milwaukee Road’s long-distance Hiawatha passenger service, traveling at speeds up to 95mph.
While this locomotive is as old as I am, it’s not aging as well as I seem to be.
As a railfan (especially of passenger trains) it’s a bit sad for me to see the rust taking over what once was a beautiful piece of streamlined machinery.
Seen at the Illinois Railway Museum. Hopefully it’s on their list of items to be restored.
