Yesterday, in the middle of a mostly cloudy day, I decided to go hiking at Natural Bridge State Park. While on the trail, just as I approached the park’s namesake (a natural sandstone arch), the sun started shining through a decent sized break in the clouds.
This monarch butterfly was so intent on flying from blossom to blossom, lapping up lunch, it was in no mood to sit still for a nice portrait. I did manage to get a couple of shots from interesting angles though.
For now, autumn is painting with a small brush, but the colors are definitely changing.
The maple trees at Edgewood College are always the first ones to start turning colors.
We’ve reached the time of the year when I can watch the sun go down at nearby Lake Monona (rather than having to bike to Lake Mendota). Autumn is fast approaching.
