Enjoying breakfast with whitetail deer
One morning while camping last week, as I was enjoying my breakfast in the woods, I heard some rustling in the brush next to my campsite. I looked over to see a whitetail deer, also having breakfast.

On this Father’s Day, after Dad and I went out for brunch, we went back to his apartment where he showed me some of the genealogy he’s been working on, including these wonderful pictures. I grabbed copies of them with my phone’s camera. First is the college graduation photo of my father, Wilmer Bloy (class of 1953). He was 25.
Angry bird
While hiking at Cherokee Marsh, I came across a red-winged blackbird who was looking after the fledglings in his nest nearby. He was NOT happy I was around. Those birds have no fear, and will attack ANYTHING that threatens their nest.
I tried to capture him in flight as he kept dive bombing, while at the same time protecting my head from his attacks. Above is a composite of three of those photos.

Remembrance for election day
When I cast my ballot tomorrow, this is moment I’ll be thinking of.
I’ll remember the tremendous pride and solidarity I felt with my fellow citizens in the Capitol rotunda that Saturday in February, 2011. We were outraged by the behavior of Governor Walker and his allies. We couldn’t believe what they were doing to our state. We listened to people tell their stories and talked about how we were going to fight back. That eventually we were going to make a difference, and our voices would be heard.
Tomorrow is that day. Yes, when I mark my ballot for my beloved Wisconsin, this is the scene I’ll be remembering.
