Big Bay’s rocky shore
The hiking trails along the southeastern edge of Big Bay State Park (where I camped on Madeline Island) provide excellent views of the granite rocks that line the shore of Lake Superior there.

For the second half of my camping vacation last week, I drove up to Bayfield, Wisconsin, and took the 25 minute ferry ride to Madeline Island. As soon as I drove onto the ferry, I knew it was a good decision. I haven’t been to the island in at least 15 years, and it felt great to be heading back again.
Trout Lake sunset
This was the best sunset I witnessed last week. Trout Lake near Boulder Junction. That sliver of light near the top is a crescent moon.
Scenes from a northwoods bike ride
I spent the first half of last week camping in the Northern Highland State Forest. One of the best things about that area is the Heart of Vilas County Trail.

I was taking a photo of this brilliantly colored zinnia Mexican sunflower when I noticed a tiny spider sitting on the edge of the stamen.

Leaf texture
Sometimes the texture of the leaves is only revealed when the light is just right. I suppose the lesson is, you need to wait for the light if you want the truth to be illuminated.
