Yahara River sunset

August 15, 2016Rivers, SkyJonathan

Sunset sky over the Yahara River

Beautiful sky in Madison last night. Almost makes up for the cloud cover during the Perseid meteor shower a few nights ago.

Like being in a cathedral

August 6, 2016Forests, Nature, Thoughts, TreesJonathan

Looking up at tall pine trees

I can often feel more spiritual and closer to God while out in nature, than in church. My time under these tall pine trees (while hiking in northern Wisconsin) is a prime example of that.

Immature bald eagle

Immature bald eagle perched in a tree

My best wildlife sighting last week. I almost didn’t notice it. On an overcast day, the juvenile’s camouflage is very effective.

Scenic vistas on the Bearskin

Tamarack Trestle on the Bearskin State Trail

As was the case the past few years, my favorite part of vacationing in northern Wisconsin last week, was biking the Bearskin State Trail.

Last glimpse of the sun

Sun setting though trees along side a lake

I spent last week camping in Wisconsin’s Northern Highland State Forest. This was the sunset view at my campsite on Trout Lake.

One of my favorite summer flowers, Bee balm.

New Orpheum sign

Orpheum Theater sign

Finally got a chance to see the new Orpheum Theater sign (a replica of the original from the 1920’s) — it looks great! I need to stop by at night sometime when it’s lit up.
