Mendota blue

March 4, 2024LakesJonathan

A lake with deep blue water. In the foreground are bare tree branches, and a few small patches of ice along the shore. A peninsula full of bare trees is seen on the opposite shore.

Lake Mendota was a remarkable shade of blue yesterday.

Out of hibernation!

February 27, 2024Bicycling, LandscapeJonathan

Bicycle parked on a pier on the shore of a mostly frozen lake. Bare trees can be seen along the shore.

Brought my bicycle out of its winter hibernation! 69 degrees at noon today, which called for a lunchtime ride.

Three cable lights hang on a wire in front of a darkening blue sky. Orange color from the setting sun is reflected in the center light.

Wind blown sunset

February 17, 2024Silhouette, Sky, TreesJonathan

Silhouette of a tree in front of an orangey sunset sky over a frozen lake. The downtown Madison skyline can be seen on the opposite shore.

Walked over to the lake to watch the sunset. Probably should have stayed longer to see the colors evolve more, but that cold wind was brutal!

Ice formations

February 13, 2024Snow & IceJonathan

Ice formations jut above the waterline in the shallows of a lake. The formations can be seen reflected in the water below.

I’ll never cease to be amazed by nature’s fascinating creations. Seen in the shallows of Lake Mendota.

Airline to heaven

February 11, 2024Quotes, Silhouette, SkyJonathan

An airplane flies through a sunset sky over the City of Madison skyline.

“There’s an airline plane,
Flies to heaven every day,
Past the pearly gates.
If you want to ride this train,
Have your ticket in your hand,
Before it is too late.”

From the song Airline to Heaven. Words by Woody Guthrie, music by Billy Bragg & Wilco.
