Happy birthday Wisconsin!

May 29, 2023Architecture, Black & White, HistoryJonathan

A decorative iron gate with a large W in the middle, and small plant leaves and flowers along the bars.

Wisconsin became a state 175 years ago today! This is the center section of an old elevator door, several of which were used in the State Capitol. It’s on display along with other Wisconsin artifacts, in a hallway that circles the top of the Capitol rotunda.

On the corner

Looking up at the corner of a three story, sandstone, Italian Renaissance Revival building with an ornate cornice on top. A deep blue sky is seen in the background above.

The American Exchange Bank building (built in 1871), in downtown Madison.

Natural light

May 19, 2023Cityscape, SkyJonathan

An orange sun, low in the sky, shines through a lamppost (as if the sun is the light of the lamp). A tall building and a sky of yellow and orange wispy clouds are in the background.

At the Edgewater Hotel, in Madison.

Wild geranium

May 17, 2023Close Up, FlowersJonathan

A small purple flower in front of green leaves.

The evening’s deep orange

May 15, 2023Lakes, SkyJonathan

Redish-orange clouds over, and reflected in a fairly calm lake. In the foreground is the silhouette of a small pine tree.

Another beautiful sunset. San Damiano Park in Monona.

A sky divided

May 12, 2023SkyJonathan

Sharply divided sunset sky of orange in one half, and deep blue (caused by a cloud on the horizon blocking the sun) in the other. The blue half has small rays of orange emanating from gaps in the cloud.

It’s tulip season

May 10, 2023FlowersJonathan

Side view of a red tulip with yellow streaks, growing in a flower bed.

I can’t decide if this tulip is more beautiful from the side, or above.
