Standing tall

January 15, 2023Black & White, TreesJonathan

Looking up from the base of several tall trees, which are bare of leaves.

Trees are poems

Sun setting behind the silhouette of a bare tree in soft focus.

“Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky.”

Enjoying the ice

January 9, 2023Lakes, Sky, Snow & IceJonathan

Sun shining in an orange sky, just above the horizon. A bicyclist is riding across a snow covered, frozen lake.

I went for a walk on the water early Saturday evening (Lake Monona). Quite a few others out there enjoying the ice with me.

The sun shines through streaky clouds, over a prairie covered with snow drifts. Scattered dried plants poke up through the snow.

Icy variations

January 2, 2023Abstract, Lakes, Snow & IceJonathan

A diptych of two photos of lake ice with dramatically different patterns.

Follow the sun

December 29, 2022Black & White, Hiking, Quotes, Snow & IceJonathan

Winding hiking trail leading up a snow covered hill. The sun shines down from the middle of the sky.

“For tomorrow may rain, so I’ll follow the sun.”

Boxing Day sunset

December 27, 2022Lakes, Sky, Snow & IceJonathan

A streaky orange sky over a frozen lake. There's a tree in silhouette in the foreground, and the Madison skyline in the distance.

First time catching a sunset in a long time. I think I made up for that by taking too many photos.

Follow the lights

December 22, 2022Architecture, Black & White, LightJonathan

Looking down a long, dark, marble hallway lined with decorative wall sconce lights. At the end of the hall, a glass door it lit from outside light.

Good winter solstice advice, brought to you by a hallway in the State Capitol.

A Capitol Christmas

December 19, 2022Architecture, TreesJonathan

Looking up from the base of a large Christmas tree in the State Capitol.

The official Wisconsin holiday tree always looks so pretty in this gorgeous building.
