To take a break from the cold temperatures this past weekend (25 degrees below normal), I went to Olbrich Botanical Gardens spring flower show, Dinosaurs & Daffodils.

There’s something special about flowers that bloom in autumn (like this chicory). Perhaps because they appear at a time when everything else seems to be turning brown and dying off.

After weeks of rain and cooler than normal temperatures, there seems to be a sudden explosion of flowers everywhere.

At last, a concrete sign of spring! Although when I see these tiny, first blossoms of the year, it seems to me that Mother Nature is tentatively testing the change of season. As if she’s saying, “Let’s see how these small flowers do before I commit to anything bigger.”
