During these days of bitter cold, snow, and mostly grey skies, heading toward the light (when you see it) is probably a good idea.

The longest night of artificial light
The winter solstice is one of my favorite days of the year. Once we get through this longest night, the season of darkness turns the tide, and the sun blesses us with more daylight each day (at least for the next six months).
This artificial light is one of the wall sconces at the Wisconsin Historical Society.

I first noticed this because of the interesting cloud formation — it went on like that for miles. Then when I looked a bit closer, there was the sun dog.
