Oak tree at dusk
A few days ago I was out hiking late in the afternoon. Heading back to my car as the sun was going down, I passed this bare oak tree. When I looked up, I was struck by the silhouette of its crooked branches against the darkening sky.
Funny how a casual glance up on the way home, can turn into the best sight of the afternoon.
Moonrise
As I went out the door to take out the trash tonight, the full moon was rising beautifully in the east.

Sunsets on Trout Lake
I just returned from a vacation at my favorite place for camping, the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest. In addition to doing a lot of biking and hiking, I was treated to unique sunsets on five nights of my stay on Trout Lake. Here are the best photos from each of those sunsets.
Storm clouds
Late yesterday afternoon, some strong storms rolled through southern Wisconsin. I spent some time on my front porch, watching them go by. There is something very fascinating about weather — especially fast moving weather, that can captivate my attention for hours.

Fireworks

This is a composite of three pictures I took of the Fourth of July fireworks. Taken from my front porch.
