It’s election time here in the United States — time for the endless barrage of political commercials that saturate the television airwaves. Is this any way to inform the public on where our potential leaders stand on the issues? The election campaigns seem to depend more on marketing experts than policy experts. Instead of hearing about the real issues, we get mudslinging.
About the only group I see benefiting from all this are the networks and television stations. They continue to rake in the millions upon millions the politicians spend on advertising while a good majority of the public doesn’t even care enough to vote. The politicians go on about wasteful government spending, while they continue to throw their campaign money at the media conglomerates. As of August 20, the two main presidential candidates have amassed campaign war chests totaling over 670 million dollars! Just think what could be accomplished if they took that money and put it to good use. I shudder to think how obscene the total would be if you included what the special interest groups are spending on political advertising.
There has got to be a better way to do this.
