While biking the Capital City State Trail the other day, I saw something along side that I hadn’t noticed before, a small junk yard, mostly filled with old tractors.
It was kind of sad seeing all these formerly hard-working machines just sitting there, rusting away amongst the weeds. But years of neglect and corrosion have also given them a strange kind of beauty.

I didn’t know there was a tractor graveyard in the Madison area. Were the red colored ones Farmall’s? or International Harvest ones? The one that is John Deere is certainly well marked. I suppose John Deere is good – but mot as great as Farmall’s especially the H. Right? As always, not only good photos but interesting subject matter. Thanks for sharing.
Of the ones that were marked, I only saw Massey-Harris (the red ones) and John Deere. The tractors where I couldn’t see a label looked like Massey-Harris to me (they had the same rounded grille as the ones that were marked). Sadly, nothing there for Farmall fans.
Awesome I love these old tractors. I think they are beautiful and deserve to be restored. Mostly I love the photo opportunities these graveyards provide.I found one in Ontario Canada but it also had old trucks I spent a lot of time there.
Hi Jon,
My guess:
Top one is a 50’s Oliver
3rd- is probably another Massey Harris. That contour of the top of the hood’s sheet-metal is similar to to 4th tractor. Which by brief research looks like a M-H ‘trademark’ (for lack of better word).
How far out is this location? May have to take a look and pic or two myself.
Nice pics.
Thanks for identifying the Oliver, I’m not familiar with those tractors.
I should have been more specific on where this is. It’s 20 yards or so past where the Capital City Trail goes under the beltline, just south of Lake Monona. Here’s a map: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=43.042892,-89.366148&num=1&gl=us&t=m&z=15
