40 years ago, a prank brought the Statue of Liberty to Madison. The joke was only the torch and the top of the head were visible, because the statue was too heavy for the ice and sank when it was placed on Lake Mendota. As part of a winter carnival, Lady Liberty appeared again this year.

There were a LOT of people on the lake Saturday. The warm temperatures after the bitter cold of the polar vortex brought everyone outside.
