So far, about 12 inches of snow has fallen at my house during today’s blizzard (and it’s still coming down). All the disruptions that occur during a major winter storm can be a real pain (and sometimes dangerous). I must admit, I complain about having to shovel heavy, wet snow. But it really does make things look beautiful. This was the scene as I walked out of my side door this afternoon.
I wish we could have the beauty without all of the aching backs and other nasty things.
Seeing a scene like this, I expect a ghostly train (steam powered of course) to come screaming out of the misty vanishing point. Perhaps I should get off the tracks…

I headed out to catch the sunset yesterday, but got distracted by all the vapor trails in the sky. Proof there were a lot of Thanksgiving travelers still out there on Sunday.
I very much prefer goldenrod in this state, void of live pollen thanks to cold temperatures.

There are 177 small crosses placed throughout the Edgewood College campus this week. A cause of death is written on one side: probable hypothermia, heat exhaustion, gunshot wound to the back, or often “undetermined cause of death.” On the other side, some have names, many have “remains unknown.”
Each of them represents someone who perished in the Sonoran Desert last year, while attempting to cross the United States-Mexico border.
October 31st, and it’s hard to find leaves on the trees anymore. They sure seemed eager to change color and hit the ground this year.
