Orpheum Theatre sign
One of my favorite things on State Street.
I love the patina, the faded colors, and the industrial look of the frame and supports. I’d put it on top of my house if I could.
The details on top
Did you ever notice the amount of detail builders used to include on the tops of their creations?
People rarely look at those spots, yet architects and trade workers took the time to craft them with wonderful designs.
Cold walk in the woods
Even during the cold of winter, a walk in the woods does wonders for my soul.
Taken at the Lakeshore Nature Preserve in Madison.
The faces of fun
Yesterday I headed over to the local sledding hill.
The expressions on the faces of the sledders as they were sliding down were priceless.
Like ducks to (cold) water
It seems the phrase “like a duck to water” is appropriate during the bitter cold too.
Just as long as they can still find some open water.
Dock drifts
At last, winter has asserted itself in Madison.
Thursday’s storm created some nice snow drifts along the dock at Tenney Park. They looked like crashing waves to me, frozen in time.
Teardown
After at least five years of sitting vacant, the Royster-Clark facility is finally being torn down.

The bones of trees
I love being able to see the structure of bare trees in the winter time. It’s almost like seeing an x-ray of their bones.
