Some of you know that I’ve been a part of the Madison Area Drum Circle Group since last spring. It’s been wonderful playing percussion again, and being a part of this welcoming, diverse, and energizing group. Toward the end of yesterday’s session, the sky complimented our music with some amazing colors and light.
Being surrounded by a maple forest that’s glowing yellow can be almost magical.
Sometimes it’s good to widen your perspective and get a broader view of the world. I did that today by hiking to the top of Wisconsin’s Gibraltar Rock.

Nothing feels better on a cool and crisp fall day.

Like the milkweed plant creating its seeds, we can spend a lot of energy molding and creating our future plans. Eventually though, we need to sit back, let the wind carry them where it will, and hope for the best.
The autumn colors in southern Wisconsin (especially the reds) have seemed muted this year, likely because of the drought. This maple branch shows colors quickly turning brown, while tree branches above are still green. Is time running out for those vibrant colors?
Saw all kinds of woolly bear caterpillars on the trail while biking the other day. It was a challenge to avoid running them over! This one had a pretty wide rusty-brown band, so if one believes the folklore, it should be a mild winter in southern Wisconsin.
