The feather
While out on a hike, I noticed a feather on the trail and picked it up. From some kind of sparrow maybe?
As I walked along the trail carrying the feather, I pondered how much of its existence was spent flying through the air. When I got to the trail’s observation tower, I thought it would be appropriate to put the feather back in the sky where it belonged (well, as high as I could place it). So I left it perched on the railing of the tower.

Petroglyphs at Roche-A-Cri
As early as 900 A.D., native peoples carved petroglyphs and pictographs into the sandstone at Roche-A-Cri State Park. You will also find carvings from people of European descent (as well as few pieces of modern graffiti).

Ice age trail, early autumn
Today marks the 40th Anniversary of the Ice Age Trail becoming an official National Scenic Trail. The other day, I hiked a portion of the trail in the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest.

A damp hike
Got caught in a brief downpour while hiking the U.W. Arboretum. Luckily, I wasn’t too far from the boardwalk shelter when it started.
