Back in the land of pines and lakes

July 31, 2022Camping, Hiking, Lakes, Landscape, TreesJonathan

Tall skinny pine trees grow from a bog at the edge of a lake, below a partly cloudy sky.

I spent last week on a camping vacation in northern Wisconsin. Wish I could’ve brought some of the fresh, pine scented air back home with me.

Railing toward sunset

July 27, 2022Landscape, Railroads, SkyJonathan

Railroad tracks leading off into the distance reflecting the late-day sun. In the background are trees, clouds in the sky, and the sun, which is low in the sky.

In a wild state

July 23, 2022Flowers, QuotesJonathan

A meadow of yellow wildflowers with dark brown heads.

“I should be glad if all the meadows on the earth were left in a wild state, if that were the consequence of men’s beginning to redeem themselves.”

Waiting for lunch

July 19, 2022Flowers, InsectsJonathan

A small yellow and brown bug sits on the middle of a yellow flower with a raised brown center.

An ambush bug waits patiently on a black-eyed Susan for a meal to drop by.

Just before the rain

July 16, 2022Black & White, Lakes, RainJonathan

Storm clouds over a lake. Rain is falling from the clouds in the distant horizon.

Tenney Park sunsets

July 13, 2022Bicycling, Landscape, SkyJonathan

Puffy purple and blue clouds above an orange colored sky with the sun just above the horizon over a lake. Trees and several people watching are in silhouette along the shore.

There’s no better way to end a summer day than with a bike ride over to Tenney Park to watch the sun go down. I always enjoy being out on my bicycle, but it’s extra special when the the sky over Lake Mendota decides to reward me with a nice light show.
