Memories of a lost tree

August 18, 2022Sky, Thoughts, TreesJonathan

description

Back in June, a severe storm knocked down many trees in Madison. Watching the sun go down In Tenney Park the other night, I was reminded that I still miss a casualty of that storm — the tree that arched over the water in this very spot, which made for some nice photo opportunities. Previously:

How rude!

August 12, 2022Hiking, MammalsJonathan

Side view of an American red squirrel, sitting on a tree branch, holding a half eaten pine cone in front of its mouth.

As I hiked along the trail, I heard a loud, scolding “chit-chit… chi-chit” in the tree above. How rude of me to interrupt this little guy’s lunch! Sorry, buddy. Just a few snaps, and I’ll let you eat in peace.

Back in the land of pines and lakes

July 31, 2022Camping, Hiking, Lakes, Landscape, TreesJonathan

Tall skinny pine trees grow from a bog at the edge of a lake, below a partly cloudy sky.

I spent last week on a camping vacation in northern Wisconsin. Wish I could’ve brought some of the fresh, pine scented air back home with me.
