Winter again

January 20, 2019Lakes, WinterJonathan

Snow covered lake shore with waves of small snow drifts

A decent snow storm and bitter cold temperatures have brought winter back to southern Wisconsin — as it should be.

Grey and brown

January 13, 2019Forests, WinterJonathan

forest of bare trees with dead leaves on the ground and a grey sky background

It’s been grey and brown for so much of the winter so far, that scenes like this are starting to look interesting to me.

Melted memory

January 8, 2019Reflections, WinterJonathan

Trees reflecting in a puddle from melted snow

That beautiful snow we got last week is all but a melted memory. Makes me wonder if we’ll reach snowshoeing levels of snow this winter in Madison? Sadly, we didn’t last year.

Magical creek

Snow covered trees along the banks of a creek

When the snow sticks to everything it sure makes for some magical scenes. Starkweather Creek in Madison.

Snow covered foliage along side a railroad bridge

Mother nature was busy decorating on New Year’s eve. Happy new year!

Ready for takeoff

December 29, 2018Thoughts, WinterJonathan

two small private jets on a snowy tarmac

A little snow on the ground, and breakfast at Madison’s Jet Room restaurant has me dreaming of flying off to warm, exotic places.

The people’s tree

December 23, 2018Architecture, PoliticsJonathan

Balcony with people looking at a Christmas tree

Last weekend I went to the Capitol to check out this year’s Christmas tree. As I noticed all the other people there doing the same thing, I was reminded that government (along with the State’s tree) is here for the benefit of the people.

Sun dog commute

December 19, 2018Life, SkyJonathan

Automobile and trees in silhouette with the sun and a sun dog in a partly cloudy sky

Once in a while, being stuck in traffic can be a blessing. Like when it gives you a moment to notice the sun dog in the sky.
