With the few inches of snow Madison got yesterday, came the realization that winter has seemed especially long this year. Like this snow covered basketball court, I’m anxiously waiting for it to end.

The old Iowa Capitol building is now a museum, and “focal point” of the University of Iowa.
Downtown Iowa City
I was in Iowa City earlier this week (attending a conference). Late one afternoon, I took a walking tour of downtown, and parts of the University of Iowa campus.
Sunset skyline
I believe this is the first time I’ve ever taken pictures of a sunset during the winter. I guess the lesson is, you’re not going to get good photos if you don’t get out there.

I take a lot of nature photos. Sometimes I wonder if I concentrate on that kind of thing too much. To expand my repertoire a bit, I headed downtown late Sunday afternoon, to shoot some of the buildings.
Frozen Monona
Despite the continuing below-normal temperatures, I needed to connect with the outdoors today. Late this afternoon, I visited a frozen Lake Monona.
