Pretty good sunset over Lake Monona this evening. Although, when the sun goes down at 4:27pm, it seems more appropriate to call it an afternoon sunset.

The hiking trails along the southeastern edge of Big Bay State Park (where I camped on Madeline Island) provide excellent views of the granite rocks that line the shore of Lake Superior there.

For the second half of my camping vacation last week, I drove up to Bayfield, Wisconsin, and took the 25 minute ferry ride to Madeline Island. As soon as I drove onto the ferry, I knew it was a good decision. I haven’t been to the island in at least 15 years, and it felt great to be heading back again.

I spent the first half of last week camping in the Northern Highland State Forest. One of the best things about that area is the Heart of Vilas County Trail.

Saturday evening I celebrated the end of the heat wave by biking to Tenney Park and watching the sun go down. Ended up being a pretty good decision.
