Waiting for the next train

Sandhill crane standing next to railroad tracks.

When I saw these sandhill cranes, I imagined them patiently waiting to hop on the next train that comes along, and taking a nice ride through the countryside together.

  1. Where did you spot this group? 2 adults & 2 almost grown chicks? I saw the 3 that make Kettle Pond their base a few days ago. It seems to me that they are hanging around a bit longer this year.

  2. Maybe the warmer weather we’ve been having is keeping them around longer? I saw these while I was biking along the Capital City Bike Path, just off the southern most point of Lake Monona. I was glad I had my camera in my saddle bag!
