Cloud watching

April 21, 2024Lakes, Reflections, Sky, ThoughtsJonathan

Stratocumulus clouds in the sky and reflected in a lake. A pier is in the foreground. Trees and a few houses can be seen along the nearby shore on the side.

Some days, I could spend hours just watching the clouds.

Solar eclipse composite

April 13, 2024Astronomy, SkyJonathan

13 images of various phases of the total solar eclipse with totality at the center.

April 8, 2024. Totality in Lebanon, Indiana lasted about 2.5 minutes. It was over so fast! From start to finish, the entire eclipse lasted around 2.5 hours. This is a composite of photos I took throughout the whole thing.

I was fortunate to have a very convenient place to witness the total eclipse: The backyard of my sister Christine and brother-in-law Glenn, in Lebanon Indiana.

The sun's corona, visible during a solar eclipse. A hint of red color is visible in the corona near the top of the sun's blocked-out silhouette.

I decided to travel to totality for yesterday’s solar eclipse. It was the first time I’ve ever witnessed a total solar eclipse, and it was an amazing experience!

A magnolia bud with a fuzzy shell. The shell has begun to open and petals from a white blossom are beginning to emerge.

When the buds of magnolia blossoms start to emerge, they can be almost as beautiful as the flowers themselves.
