Dad and I went to the Rock River Thresheree yesterday, to look at the antique farm equipment. The Farmall H is the tractor my grandfather (Theodore Bloy) bought around 1950 to use on the farm where my father grew up. Dad (Wilmer Bloy) stands beside an H from that era below.

Lately I’ve been fascinated with old buildings and their history.
There are many clues to the past out there, although they’re easy to overlook.
The Casket Arts Building
My sister Barbra’s studio is in the Casket Arts Building, a 120 year-old structure that once housed the Northwestern Casket Company.
I could have spent hours walking around the old building and taking photos,
Old Iowa Capitol

The old Iowa Capitol building is now a museum, and “focal point” of the University of Iowa.
The Edgewood History Collection
One of the long term projects I’ve been involved with at work was quietly unveiled this week, the Edgewood History Collection.
The project is a collaboration between myself and several other members of the library staff. My responsibility involved designing and developing the collection’s Home and About pages, as well as the page templates for the digital collection management software (the pages that actually display the items in the collection). The software we’re using is a hosted version of ContentDM.

While I was in Washington DC for the Computers in Libraries conference, I took a couple vacation days to see some of the sights.

Unfortunately, the cherry blossoms peaked about a week before I was there.
